The Roman Era Villa of Bolognami
Here we are! Today, the Bolognami team presents the second chapter of our story. Gianluigi D'Onofrio guides you through the discovery of a Roman Villa on our farmland, dating back to between the 2nd century BC and the 3rd century AD proof that the ancients knew how to pick beautiful locations long before we did.
Discovery of the Archaeological Remains of the Great Roman Villa
A significant recent archaeological find has brought to light a Great Roman Villa atop the hill that slopes down toward Lake Chiusi on our Bolognami farm. These ancient remains were identified following meticulous research by a local historian and were fully uncovered after three excavation campaigns conducted by Indiana University. The site bears witness to the historical importance of the Agro Chiusino (the Chiusi countryside) during the Roman era. The villa occupied a strategic, panoramic position overlooking the ancient Clanis river, signaling the presence of wealthy rural estates (villae rusticae) that managed the agricultural production of the region
