Grechetto di Montefalco Organic DOC Antonelli San Marco

The Grechetto di Montefalco Organic DOC from the Antonelli San Marco winery is one of the clearest and most faithful interpretations of this historic Umbrian grape variety. Antonelli a landmark estate in the region known for its organic approach and the elegance of its wines produces this 100% Grechetto by focusing entirely on freshness and drinkability, without sacrificing the variety's characteristic structure. The wine is processed exclusively in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. A key detail is the aging on the lees (yeast) for approximately 3 months, which imparts a roundness that balances the natural acidity. Following the steel aging, the wine rests in the bottle for another 3 months before being released to the market

The History of the Antonelli San Marco Winery

The Antonelli San Marco winery is one of the historical pillars of Montefalco. It is more than just a winery; it is the story of how a family transformed an ancient estate into a model of elegance and sustainability in the heart of Umbria. It all began in the late 19th century. In 1881, Francesco Antonelli, a lawyer from Spoleto, decided to purchase the San Marco estate. At the time, the property was a "curtis" (an agricultural court) belonging to the German-Hungarian College of Rome. Francesco began a process of profound transformation and modernization of the land, which was then managed under the sharecropping system. While the estate was already known for the quality of its products, the focus on viticulture became central with subsequent generations. Today, the estate spans approximately 190 hectares in a single plot, about 50 of which are under vine. Since 2009, the winery has undergone organic conversion, achieving full certification with the 2012 harvest. This approach reflects a commitment to preserving the biodiversity of an ecosystem that also includes forests, olive groves, and arable land. To minimize visual impact on the Umbrian landscape and utilize natural thermoregulation, the winery was built underground, allowing the grapes to be processed via gravity flow to avoid the stress of mechanical pumps
