The Mi-To Vintage Cocktail

The Mi-To Vintage Cocktail by Bologanmi is a modern reinterpretation of a classic, historically significant cocktail in the world of mixology. Beyond being a drink that accompanied Italian habits throughout the 20th century, its original recipe served as the foundation for other cocktails that are now cornerstones of modern mixology. The drink is as simple as it is balanced and perfectly harmonious. It can be served both with and without ice. This is a nod to the past, as during the 19th and early 20th centuries, refrigeration and ice were not commonplace in all establishments.

History of the Milano-Torino Cocktail (Mi-To)

Why is it called Mi-To? The name indicates the cities of origin for the two alcoholic ingredients that compose the cocktail: Vermouth from Turin (Torino) and Bitter from Milan (Milano). It's no coincidence that these two Italian cities remain among the most important and innovative centers in international mixology today. Trying a Milano-Torino at different temperatures can be an interesting experience and a good way to refine your senses. Vermouth and Bitter have complex recipes that include many herbs, spices, aromas, and fruits. At very low temperatures, the sweet notes are accentuated, while at less rigid temperatures, the spicy notes come to the forefront. For a true vintage effect, we've chosen to serve our version in a metal coupe.

Ingredients

  • Red Vermouth: 4.5 cl (or 1 1/2 oz)
  • Red Bitter: 4.5 cl (or 1 1/2 oz)
  • Balsamic Vinegar of Modena: 2 Drops
  • Lemon Peel
  • Ice

Preparing Our Mi-To Vintage Cocktail

To prepare our Mi-To Vintage Cocktail by Bologanmi, we first fill a Metal Coupe with abundant ice to chill it. While the coupe is cooling, we get our main stars: the Red Vermouth and the Red Bitter. Next, fill a shaker with ice and add our ingredients: the Red Bitter, the Red Vermouth, and our secret touch—two drops of Balsamic Vinegar. Now, shake the mixture. Finally, cut a beautiful lemon peel. First, run it along the rim of the coupe to transfer the essential oils, and then place it inside before pouring in the cocktail. Enjoy!
