Italian Spritz

Italian Spritz, colorful, refreshing, and not overly alcoholic, the Spritz is one of Italy's most iconic and beloved cocktails. It's cherished for its fresh, sparkling taste and subtly bitter notes. Originating in Veneto at the beginning of the 19th century, the Spritz has become one of the most popular drinks throughout Italy and is highly sought after during aperitivo hour. While there are many variations, we're offering a truly exquisite and innovative one: the Italian Spritz. This version is made with a red wine base, specifically the Vecchia Cantina di Montepulciano wine, available on Bolognami Store. It's a creative and refined drink, perfect for those seeking something out of the ordinary to enjoy with friends or to sip while relaxing.

Cocktail Recipe

The Spritz has quite ancient origins. It was born during the Austrian domination of Lombardy-Veneto, when Austrian soldiers began to dilute the alcoholic content of Venetian wines with seltzer. The name itself comes from the German word 'spritzen,' which means 'to spray.' The original version of the drink calls for Aperol, while the Milanese version includes Campari. For our recipe, however, we use Nobile di Montepulciano Biologico D.O.C.G. Vecchia Cantina wine as the alcoholic base, which is part of Bolognami's selected wines. This wine is primarily made from Sangiovese grapes, characterized by a ruby red color and a fresh, expansive aroma that develops spicy notes during aging. Inspired by the traditional Venetian Spritz recipe, the delicious and aromatic Italian Spritz harmoniously combines the fragrant fruity notes of red wine with the natural aromas of orange, blending the tartness of citrus with the sweetness of passion fruit.

Ingredients

  • Nobile Vecchia Cantina 2018 red wine(Bolognami selection)
  • Peachtree De Kuyper Liqueur

Cocktail Preparation

Take a spritz glass and add a mix of citrus slices (orange, lemon, and lime) to give our cocktail a pleasant aroma. Then, add a few fresh basil leaves. Pour in some Peachtree liqueur, followed by a maximum of 2 cl of passion fruit puree to add a touch of sweetness to the drink. Lightly muddle the mix to allow the citrus juices to blend with the other ingredients. Add a few ice cubes, then pour in 6 cl of Nobile di Montepulciano red wine from the Bolognami selection. Fill the rest of the glass with grapefruit soda and stir well to combine all the components of the drink. Garnish with fresh basil leaves and an orange slice. Our red wine spritz is ready. Cheers!
